These Meetings-Seminars are intended as an initiative for bringing Research Projects closer to the real world. In future meetings we will cover themes like the use of Semantic Web Services in Integrated Applications.
Summary:
In the current Information Society, with the emergence of the internet as the most important innovation, information is available by means of multiple sources (Internet, Intranet, Departmental Applications...) and in many formats (Databases, PDF, HTML, Word...). The administration and gathering of information via various means and en masse, often unstructured, has become a little complicated.
Semantic Web technology intends to automate the search and convert the available information in a valuable aid for decision making.
What is the Semantic Web?
The Semantic Web is a mesh of information linked up in such a way as to be easily processable by machines, on a global scale.
Let’s suppose, for example, that a big company’s intranet is able to build a database on relations amongst employees. Using a combination of this ability to build data and the information available on the intranet, it could react in an exact and well-structured way to an employee who wished to reserve a flight, look for information on recent news articles about the company, get information about their clients or suppliers...
