The National Information Technology Awards

Antonio Vaquero Sanchez, professor at the Complutense University of Madrid, received the Jose Garcia Santesmases award (one of the pioneers of Information Technology in Spain) for his outstanding career in research, promotion and information technology support.
The Aritmel prize (named after the Aritmometro Electromecanico, one of the first digital calculators, designed by Leonardo Torres Quevedo) is granted ex-aequo to Manuel Hermenegildo Salinas and Matthew Valero Cortes, professors from the Polytechnic Universities of Madrid and Catalonia. The award has been given for the scientific merits achieved in computer science during the year.

The Mare Nostrum prize (named after one of the most powerful supercomputers in the world, located in Barcelona), which rewards the private sector body that has best contributed to Computer Engineering this year, was won by iSOCO and Telvent companies for their close collaboration with the academic community in numerous projects, both domestic and international.

The Government of the Region of Extremadura has been awarded with the Ramon Llull (Patron Saint of Computer Engineering) for its experience and promotion of free software.
